Thursday was our 20th day in school. Zero the Hero stopped by for a visit. He read to us part of the book Emily's First 100 days of School by Rosemary Wells. He will read from this book each time he comes and will count with us to the decade number we are on by 10s and 1s. Students especially enjoy when Zero "flies" from the room when he leaves.

And we had a butterfly!

We were so lucky when we returned to school on Tuesday after Labor Day to our newly hatched butterfly. We were so excited! We went outside immediately after breakfast/snack to release it. Mrs. Lombard's class came to watch and Mrs. Spear's class had two butterflies to release. Many preschoolers joined us as well. It was a highlight of our week!

Here is Wormy in its' cocoon. We continue to talk about the Monarch Life Cycle - egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, butterfly. On Friday we got to see a blue bear butterfly be released. Thank you Mrs. Spear! We are also anxiously awaiting our own butterfly. Cross our fingers for Tuesday!

Wormy

Meet Wormy, our caterpillar turned chrysalis. Last week a student brought in a Monarch caterpillar for our class to observe. After only a few days, Wormy made a cocoon around him/herself. We are anxiously awaiting our butterfly and will rename him/her once we he/she emerges. Yesterday we made a chart to show what we know about caterpillars and butterflies. We discussed the life cycle and one student titled it "The Circle of Life". I am so impressed with our first few days of school. I can't wait to get to know everyone better.
